On May 21, City Year Boston held its annual Starry Starry Night Gala to celebrate its work with public school students in the Boston area. Bain Capital Community Partnership (BCCP) served as the presenting sponsor of the event as part of its City Year National Gala Sponsorship for the 2015-2016 school years across the United States and United Kingdom.
This year’s gala took place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. More than 700 people attended the sold out event, including nearly 70 Bain Capital employees and their family members, many of whom have made City Year an important part of their lives by donating their time, expertise and resources. During the gala, audience members helped raise more than $250,000 to support City Year’s impact in Boston and beyond.
The evening began with many of the 256 City Year corps members who serve Boston public schools "power greeting" attendees. Later in the evening, Bain Capital Credit Managing Director Jonathan Lavine, chair of City Year’s National Board of Trustees, addressed the audience.
"We are incredibly grateful to Jonathan Lavine for delivering featured remarks at Starry Starry Night 2015. His remarks were informative, inspiring, and engaging – and helped City Year Boston exceed our fundraising goal for the evening," said Sandra Burke, City Year Boston Executive Director. "Thank you to Jonathan and his colleagues at Bain Capital for supporting City Year Boston as both the sponsor of the City Year team serving at the E. Greenwood Leadership Academy and as our Starry Starry Night 2015 Presenting Sponsor."
John King, CNN’s Chief National Correspondent and Massachusetts native, was the evening’s featured speaker. He spoke of growing up in Dorchester, MA, attending Boston Public Schools and his passion for the work City Year is doing in his hometown and around the world.
